Do you need tips for getting your mascara right? Don’t we all? Applying mascara is a fine art that you wouldn’t think would be that hard, but sometimes is. Fortunately, in general, putting on mascara isn’t all that hard. However, having some tips for getting your mascara right can really help you. Here they are!
1. Find the right mascara…
Applying mascara is infinitely easier if you find the right one. Do you want to lengthen? Or thicken your lashes? Or maybe you just want them to look darker. Whatever your needs, one of the best tips for getting your mascara right is to evaluate what you want from it. Once you have that figured out, you can buy the one you need and look fabulous every time you put it on.
2. Don’t pump…
When you pump the mascara wand up and down in the tube, all you do is push a bunch of air in there. When you try to put it on, you’ll wind up with bubbles or pockets that don’t have any mascara, which means an uneven application.
3. Coat both sides…
Most women only put mascara on one side of their lashes. Well, it turns out that it’s better to swipe it on front and back. Not only does it create a more defined look, but then you can get enough mascara on to make a difference.
4. Curl first…
It was once thought that mascara then the curling mechanism was the best order for things. It’s not! Don’t worry; instead, it’s a better idea to curl your lashes first. That way your eyelash curler doesn’t get all gunky and gross and it protects your eyelashes from breakage, which is more likely if you curl second.
5. Wiggle the wand…
Instead of swiping the mascara from top to bottom in one single motion, experts recommend wiggling the wand at your lash line before pulling it outward. That way you retain some of the curl you just put in and it helps to separate the lashes as well. No spiky, clumped together lashes here!
6. Use warm water
If your mascara gets a little clumpy or thick, soak it in a glass of warm water for a few minutes. That will help soften it so you can still apply it. However, when it gets to that point, it’s probably best to toss and buy yourself a new tube of mascara. That way you aren’t battling it every time you want to put it on.
7. Throw it away…
You might not realize it, but mascara has an expiration date. Beyond that date, you could be doing some real damage to your eyes by continuing to use it. If you’ve ever had an eye infection, then must know you want to avoid ever having to deal with it again. So if it’s past its prime, spend some money and get something new. And never share mascara either. It’s just as dangerous.
