It’s never easy to say goodbye. These talented stars left us in 2021 and will be missed as we look at their magnificent work of art, which will continue to serve as a reflection of their greatness. So here we are paying a tribute to the ones we lost this year:
Umer Sharif
Legendary Pakistani comedian-actor Umer Sharif passed away after his health deteriorated. The legendary actor received National awards for Best Director and Best Actor in 1992 for Mr. 420. Sharif was also a recipient of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
He was granted a United States visa for medical treatment and the Sindh government also approved 40 million rupees for his treatment. On 2 October 2021, he died in a hospital in Nuremberg, Germany, at the age of 61.mberg, Germany, at the age of 61.
Durdana Butt
Renowned television actor Durdana Butt passed away in Karachi on August 12, 2021. She completed her studies from Kinnaird College and later she went to University of Toledo where she got a PhD in Ohio Educational Administration.
Butt started her acting journey in the early 70s. The renowned actor is best remembered for her roles in dramas, most notably Fifty Fifty, Aangan Terha, Ruswai, Intezaar, and Tanhaiyaan.
Farooq Qaiser
Pakistan’s award-winning puppeteer and TV director Farooq Qaiser, who shot to fame with Uncle Sargam character, died in Islamabad on May 14, 2021. The deceased was suffering from cardiac complications. In 1976, he directed and wrote his own puppet show Kaliyan which received an overwhelming response from the public.
Suhail Asghar
Legendary actor Suhail Asghar passed away after a prolonged illness on November 13, 2020, in Lahore. He started his journey from Radio Pakistan and later entered the TV industry. Asghar was awarded for outstanding performance for film Murad and best actor award for the year 2002 at 12th PTV Awards.
Talat Siddiqui
Pakistani actress Talat Siddiqui breathed her last in Lahore after a prolonged illness. She was 82. Known for hits Dilnasheen, Kaliya and Haider Sultan, the veteran actor had bid adieu to the industry 30 years ago.
Sultana Zafar
Veteran Pakistani actor Sultana Zafar passed away at the age of 66, leaving her fans heartbroken. She passed away in Dallas, USA, where she was running a boutique called Armale Studios. The Tanhaiyaan star was best known for her roles in dramas Uroosa and Akhri Chattan.
Haseena Moin
Haseena Moin, a well-known Pakistani playwright, died on March 26 at the age of 79. Haseena Moin had been battling cancer for quite some time. The Pakistani drama industry was stunned by her passing.
Haseena visited many countries and won numerous awards, including the Pride of Performance Award in 1987 for her services to the performing arts in Pakistan.
Farhad Humayun
Farhad Humayun, a Pakistani singer and Overload frontman, died in June, the band reported on social media.The news of the singer and record producer’s death was shared on Overload’s official social media website, with the band asking fans to pray for his soul.
Sumbul Shahid
Sumbul Shahid, a Pakistani actress who left the entertainment industry in May, died of COVID-19 infection complications. She was the sister of well-known TV actors Bushra Ansari and Asma Abbas, and was fighting the fatal illness on a ventilator.
