Eating Healthy or Working Out? What works better for you?
One without the other doesn’t work, at least not for me. I don’t do cheat meals. I do indulgent meals at times. I don’t call it cheating. I call it replenishment. Working out without the diet is like buying a really expensive car and putting crude oil instead of fuel to drive it… would it work?
Any fad diets that worked for you?
Nope. I’m a style person not a fad person. Never fallen into the diet zone. I try to eat an overall healthy diet. I say “eat everything enough, exercise everyday enough”
What is your philosophy on health and fitness?
It is a lifestyle. There shouldn’t be a philosophy about such essentials… does anyone need a philosophy on breathing? My personal mantra about health and fitness is that I should be healthy and super fit.
Would you call yourself a health freak-elaborate?
I would like to be considered a health connoisseur, someone who likes to explore the boundaries of my physical wellbeing and push through to achieve new goals. I like exploring what my body is capable of doing and becoming.
Your wellness routine before going to bed?
I do night meditation. Everyday. Been doing it for years. It’s a simple routine. Rest the most important thing I do before sleeping every night is doing a gratitude check. My kids and I do a count of 5 things that made us happy every day. I feel that gratitude is the best form of wellness.
The first thing you aim to do right after waking up?
Again, starting the day with a little prayer and a small sense of gratitude. Hearing the sounds of the birds in the early hours of the day. I make myself a hefty happy breakfast then workout before going to work.
How do you keep your workout interesting at home during pandemic?
I consider myself a slightly creative person hence I keep exploring different techniques in my workouts. I enjoy running and I feel every run has its own unique lifeline. It is such an interesting experience. Being one with your body is such an amazing experience, once you know how to hear what your body is telling you, everything changes.
A fitness guru you idolize?
My future selfI still haven’t been able to figure this out. I don’t like overtly built bodies; most people on Instagram are selling a little too intense physique. if I have to put a finger towards an inspiration, it’d be someone like Mat Fraser, also The Rock but not as fitness guru but overall personal branding guru.
What is your health motto?
Eat. Everything. Enough.
Exercise. Everyday. Enough.
Working out at home or the gym?
Always a gym! Shapes! So far, my favorite place to work out at.
What are your picks for
the following perfect meals?
•Breakfast: 6 egg whites, sourdough bread and butter with black coffee.
•Pre-workout: apple.
•Post-workout: protein shake.
•Lunch: Anything since it’s after the gym. I can eat anything… I love having fish with some rice during the winters post gym.
• Dinner: Usually light… nothing specific but a protein centric dish with a small side of carbs. Could be a roti made with whole grain flour, or brown rice or some veggies.
• Snacks: Fruits! I love fruits! But I also stock up on healthy snacks like protein bars, healthy cupcakes, peanut butter clusters, granola etc.
• Guilty pleasures: popsicles by iseepop
Do you follow and adapt meditation tactics in your daily routine?
Not as regularly as I would like to. That’s going to be an addition in my routine hopefully next year. This year is all aesthetic and functional training.
What remains your favorite healthy food/recipe?
So many. I am a proud self-proclaimed healthy food chef. I make my healthy versions of everything. From pancakes, to waffles, to burgers with low carb buns. I love making high protein snacks and desserts for my late-night cravings.
When out with friends, where do you often like to dine?
When I’m out with friends, I eat what’s on the menu. I’m not an extremely painful person when it comes to occasional food. If I don’t feel like having what’s being offered, I will skillfully dodge the scene without offending anyone.
Do you believe in cheat days? If so, what’s the main item on the menu?
They are NOT cheat meals … Lol. They are hyper replenishments. I love waffles… I love burgers. Those are my go-to for those extra cravings … good sourdough bread with great quality butter … Ultra-awesome.
