The Pakistani drama industry is one that has been effectively creating a really strong niche for itself. And we are not just talking about those who appreciate it within the country. It has a strong fan following from the neighboring country too, mainly due to the content and substance with which these stories are presented. The dramas are relatable. They allow you to reflect. To be able to get a sense of understanding of what these characters may be going through is what makes a drama a really poignant way of story representation. This year too was a good one for Pakistan. It brought forth some brilliant works of art. There were some leading directors, scripts, and defining characters who left such a strong impression on us in indescribable ways. Let’s now celebrate the way our dramas are able to bring storytelling into complete manifestation. Here are Social Diary’s Top Picks of the Best Dramas in 2022:
Mere Humsafar
Mere Humsafar again served as something new. Rather than seeing the judgmental, chauvinist husband material that we usually do. Here was someone who was very supportive. The story revolved around the life of a young girl, Hala, who is left by her father at her paternal house, where she is mistreated. However, as her cousin returns from abroad, he marries her and gives her the respect she deserved and needed. Produced by Humayun Saeed and Shehzad Naseeb and directed by Qasim Ali Mureed with an extremely popular cast, including Farhan Saeed, Hania Aamir, Saba Hameed, Waseem Abbas, Tara Mahmood, Aly Khan, the drama made such a poignant impact.
Bakhtawar
When you have someone like Yumna Zaidi taking the reins of a series, you know you are all set for something really interesting and poignant. Bakhtawar is one of those few dramas on this list that has a few episodes to its credit. But it has already left a major impression on us. The story is refreshing and Yumna Zaidi’s performance keeps you completely intrigued and hooked. Bakhtawar is essentially the story of a young girl who is determined to make it through life on her own. In order to do so, she takes a decision that changes the direction of her story and complicates things for her as her journey moves forward. There is no denying it defines willpower-the persistence of its protagonist through whatever she faces. And we are in to see her riding through her tribulations like the boss girl that she is!
Fraud
There is no denying when you have someone as close to perfection as Saba Qamar taking on a project, you are bound to see something brilliant being presented on screen. The top-notch performances, great production values, and visuals add to the entertainment value. Ahsan Khan has yet again managed to play a negative role in such a manner that you look forward to watching his scenes.
Sang e Mah
Anyone who has seen Momina’s earlier works, can vouch that there can’t be any stronger form of storytelling. Crafting a riveting scenario of epic settings with extremely well-developed characters and powerful dialogues, this one was pure gold. The cast, consisting of the ever-versatile Nauman Ijaz meant you will be treated to good acting, and he is joined by the talented duo Sania Saeed and Samiya Mumtaz. The trio certainly delivered and it was one of the most brilliantly presented drama serial that came out in 2022.
