What is your philosophy on health and fitness?
While it’s important to be healthy, it is also important to be happy. It’s not just about being thin. It’s not about having certain dimensions or proportions. What matters is being happy with who you are. But make sure you get regular medical checkups to keep a check on your blood cholesterol, your triglycerides, your blood sugar, your blood pressure and other important stats. Remember it is not about staying thin, it is about staying fit.
Do you follow and adapt meditation tactics in your daily routine?
No, I don’t follow yoga for the sake of meditation. But yes, I really love doing yoga. But that’s only to stretch out and to really keep my body supple.
When out with friends, where do you often like to dine?
I dine anywhere depending on the kind of food that I want to eat. Sometimes it’s Pakistani, or Chinese, Japanese, Thai and even continental. So it really depends on what I’m in the mood for.
Would you call yourself a health freak-elaborate?
Yes I would because I get regular blood check ups done to keep a check on all my blood sugar and blood cholesterol and blood triglycerides and even at times I have gone to get my ECG done even though nothing has been wrong with me. The focus is knowing what is going on inside my body and if there is anything that I should be careful about then I really need to stay on top of all those things.
Any fad diets that worked for you?
I have wanted to try a lot of these fad diets, but none I could actually continue for more than a week. But yes, what has really worked for me, which I continued for approximately six months, was that I was eating my food with a spoon in which I was completely avoiding chapati, as well as rice. I also curbed my sweet intake. And I was adding a lot of raw vegetables which included cabbages, carrots, cucumbers and a lot of lemon, which I was including in my regular desi food, like daal and salan. That really worked for me because I think as Pakistanis, we are used to our certain taste buds and our food palette, which I at the very least cannot stay away from. I would also include a lot of pickles, a lot of achar, making the dish suit my desi style.
Eating Healthy or Working Out? What works better for you?
It starts off by working out and then it continues with controlling my diet but I try to avoid certain foods. Rather than reducing the quantity of my food, I aim to keep myself fuller with healthier options.
Your wellness routine before going to bed?
My only wellness routine before going to bed is a lot of skin care. I completely take off my makeup. I prefer the Korean seven step skin care. I’ve been doing that for a very long time. I cleanse my face, wash it, then I’m going to apply a toner, after which I use serum, then I apply a night cream and I’ll apply some kind of a medicine if I’m getting a pimple on my face. I also try including a lot of green tea.
The first thing you aim to do right after waking up?
On days when I am not bound with doing a drama shoot, I get up and I go for my workout. Otherwise when I am home and I have to go for a drama recording then the first thing that I do when I wake up is just get ready.
What are your picks for
the following perfect meals?
Breakfast: oatmeal or eggs
Pre-workout: dates
Post-workout: green tea
Lunch: 1.5 chapati
Dinner: 1/2 chapati
Guilty pleasures: any kind of chocolate cake or brownie
How do you keep your workout interesting at home?
I cannot workout at home. I used to be able to workout at home, but not anymore. I end up getting very lazy and then I don’t end up working out actually so I prefer working out at the fitness studio/ gym.
Do you believe in cheat days? If so, what’s the main item on the menu?
There are cheat times on a daily basis for me. Generally I’m careful about the kind of food that I’m eating. I try to be careful of the proportions. I do let myself indulge in some guilty pleasures but the worst time to cheat is actually late at night, which I try to avoid. But if I want to cheat, then I will cheat, preferably during the afternoon time.
Where does your inspiration to live fit comes from?
I have been into fitness since I was a young girl. I used to walk from my apartment to go to Gymkhana where I used to play tennis. When I had shifted out from that area and I came towards Seaview, I used to cycle and I used to go to the nearby club to play tennis. And then I used to swim and I used to cycle back. In the mornings I used to jog. And this was all at the time when I was not into modeling. I was just a student. And that was my routine. Being sporty helped me to stay fit. My body craves a workout because it starts cramping. Overall working out keeps me in a good mood and posture in the long-run.
