I f you want your strands to be silky, hydrated and strong, there are some great items in your fridge or pantry that can help make your hair gorgeous.
Also, keep in mind, the amount of sebum — the main culprit for oily hair — produced is different for each person. So it’s a great idea to play around with different ingredients to find out which natural products work best with your hair.
Apple Cider Vinegar & Lemon Juice
This combo balances your hair’s pH level while excess oil is also controlled and sebum production is also equalized. Squeeze the juice from one lemon and mix it with ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar. Apply the solution to your hair for 15 minutes and rinse with cold water.
Baking Soda & Plain Yogurt
Baking soda has a great oil-absorbing quality, and its alkaline content can balance the pH level on your scalp. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to a ½ cup of plain yogurt. Apply to hair and cover for 30 minutes before rinsing and shampooing.
Egg White & Lemon Juice
The vitamin C from the lemon juice controls excess oil, while the egg white can balance the moisture on your scalp and prevent the rest of your hair from getting too dry. Mix one egg white with the juice from one lemon. Apply it to your hair and cover it for 30 minutes. Then rinse your hair with cool water and follow with your regular shampoo and conditioner.
Honey & Banana
Not only is this combo delicious, but it will help thoroughly nourish your hair and help effectively control the oil on your hair and scalp thanks to minerals and vitamin from the banana and the rich antioxidant properties of the honey. Blend one ripe banana to a thick consistency, and mix it with honey at a 4:1 ratio. Apply the paste to your hair, massaging at your roots. Leave it in for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
Green or Blue Clay & Egg Yolk
Clay is popular as a skincare boost to absorb oil and smoothen the skin texture. But green and blue clay that contain silica can be used for hair with the same functionality. A subtle dosage of these clays eliminates the dead skin cells on your hair scalp and eject excessive oil from your hair. Mixed with egg yolk, a mask will balance the oil levels in your hair. Combine 2-4 tablespoons of clay with an egg yolk and water. Massage in gently to your scalp and hair, and cover for 30 minutes before rinsing and shampooing.
Strawberries
Strawberries can naturally reduce the excess oil in your hair perfectly. Plus they contain vitamin C and antioxidants, which are important role for maintaining your hair’s health. Smash enough strawberries to get ½ cup of juice. Apply it to your scalp and hair, letting it soak in for about 10 minutes before a thorough rinse. Or mix 2 tablespoons mayonnaise with 8 smashed strawberries, mix into a smooth paste and apply it to wet hair for about 15 minutes before rinsing clean.
