Looking back at the year we see so many things that have happened and taken the internet by storm. From marriages, to legal proceedings, to just random stuff, some were laugh worthy and entertaining, while others became a headache for all. Here are a few of these happenings that we think were note worthy.
Junoon Concert
After 13 long years the band finally came together to play live! It was a night to remember on December 25. The reunion didn’t take place overnight; rather the efforts were being made for the past couple of years. It was a major highlight of the year!
#MeToo, Ali Zafar and Misha Feud
Amidst the heat of #MeToo allegations that had taken Hollywood by storm, our local artist Misha Shafi also had something to open up about. Although the singer didn’t reveal details of the incident, she claimed that she had “been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar.” Once that was said on twitter all hell broke loose, with Ali Zafar sending her a defamation notice from the court. Though things simmered down pretty quick.
Ko Ko Korina
Certain things need to be left alone, and Ko Ko Korina is one of them. The recent cover sung by none other than Ahad Raza Mir and Mohmina Mustehsan, did not fare well with majority of the population.
Oyeee Ye Mera Basta Hai
It is interesting how the most unusual things can start trending thanks to social media! This is one kid who got so famous with his antics that he got to be on a morning show for it! All because he wanted his bag back so that he could study, but that is something which was highlighted.
Baby Shark
It is just a nursery rhyme about a family of sharks. But that has not stopped it from becoming the 27th most watched video on YouTube! Its popularity is mostly because of the Baby Shark Challenge – where people filmed themselves doing the Baby Shark dance moves.
In My Feelings Challenge
While we are on the topic of challenges, this year the “In My Feelings” Challenge took the world by storm. It started with Instagram user theshiggyshow dancing to Drake’s hit Scorpion song “In My Feelings” in June. Since that original video was posted, it spread like wildfire, and everyone from Will Smith to Sterling K. Brown started getting in on the dance challenge, mimicking the moves flawlessly. The viral challenge had so much influence, in fact, that it was prominently spotlighted in
Rehamsutra
It seems like a bad case of your ex- trying to get back with you. That is what Reham Khan’s book was like. It was more about Imran Khan, even though the author stated that it was her biography. The internet had a field day with the release for her book,
A really very Long Wedding!
Two of the major hearth throbs, Muneeb and Aiman tied the knot this year. And apparently it was the longest wedding of the year, with a dholki, a mayun, a party, menhdi, barat and walima. Seems it the regular deal, but people still felt uncomfortable with the long wedding.
Saudis lifted Ban On Driving
For the first time in history Saudi women were allowed to get behind the wheel. A long standing ban which rendered women from driving finally came to an end. This was without a doubt a major step towards women empowering.
Kar-Jenner babies
It was a year where the Keeping up with the Kardashians family grew by not one or two, but three family members! Sisters Kim, Khloe and Kylie were blessed with baby girls. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had a baby through surrogate, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott had a baby amidst secrecy, and Khloe Kardashian had a baby with Tristan Thompson amidst cheating scandal.
