When we consider what kind of pets to keep in Pakistan, there are a few kinds that always take the lead. These are an absolute favorite. And today I want to talk to you about teetar or Black Francolin as it is known worldwide. This is one of the few species of francolins that are found outside Africa. It resides in Pakistan also and is considered one of the most popular kinds you can find. A few more things to know about the Black Francolin; it is found in scrubby habitats and forms its nests in a bare ground scrape. The normal clutch is eight to ten white spotted pale brown greenish eggs and they feed on a wide variety of plants and insect food. Did you know that teetar can come in a range of colors? They come in different sorts of colors and look very unique as compared to other bird categories. Kala Teeter is also known as black partridge and its sound is very unique and makes it different from other pheasants. Kala teeter is considered a game bird as it is hunted for sports and food as well. You can keep it as a house pet without considering the fact that it is used for sports or food.
So when we look at how black francolins are kept, you should first understand the nature of these majestic birds. For one thing, they are usually found as couples. Or you can find them in groups of 4 or 5.
Also, it is quite rare to see a single teetar on its own. These feathered animals are actually very shy in nature. That means they will not warm up to humans as easily. But when it comes to how they interact in groups, the situation changes considerably. When they see that humans are feeding them, trying to interact with them, and generally looking after their well-being, these beautiful birds will eventually warm up to humans considerably. Make sure you don’t do sudden movements.
While teetar are usually kept in cages, you should create enclosures that allow them to roam around. Also, make sure that you are letting them come out of their confinements at some point in the day. This allows them to express themselves and be able to take in their surroundings, warming up to them. This kind of practice creates a safe haven for them and allows the teetar family to mingle and familiarize themselves with one another.
Home for Your Teetar
One of the major decisions you need to make is what kind of space will you be giving your teetar to roam around in. Some people think it’s okay for you to keep these birds inside your homes but that is not an ideal situation. This is because they will be making a major mess. Also, teetar has a very distinctive voice. A rather kik-kik sound can get loud and repetitive. This may prove to be a nuisance especially if your home is in a small space. The sound can echo and will lead to several concerns for you. So it is best if you can have their enclosure created in a garden space. Also, make sure that their confinement is such that it is properly covered from the top. That allows them to remain safe from the scorching sunlight. Make sure you also keep some fresh water by their side. This allows the birds to remain completely protected. Make sure that you create nice enclosures for the couples which allow them to lay eggs with ease. They don’t need to have a varied diet but they do need to have some seeds, bits of fruits, and vegetables. All of this leads to the birds remaining healthy and happy. The kind of environment you give to them plays a concrete role in how they will adjust to your home. So make sure that the kind of space they are getting is allowing them to feel happy and healthy. Black Francolin is a good pet when you know the dynamics of how to keep them healthy and safe.
