Incident Overview
A U.S. national and social media activist, who is also a vlogger, has reported being gang-raped by her guide and two accomplices at Fort Munro in Dera Ghazi Khan district. The woman was visiting the hill station after accepting an invitation from the primary suspect, ‘M,’ a 21-year-old American.
Details of the Alleged Assault
District Police Officer (DPO) Ali Waseem confirmed that ‘M’ has confessed to the crime. Consequently, the Border Military Police (BMP) arrested him and secured his remand from the court. Meanwhile, the woman, who had been staying with her fiancé, Basil Khan, in Lahore, was taken to the hospital for a medical examination. She also alleged that the suspects recorded video clips of the assault.
The woman had arranged her trip to Fort Munro through a social media group for tourist guides, based on ‘M’s’ invitation. After traveling alone to Rajanpur and staying with ‘M’s family, she proceeded to Fort Munro. There, she claims the rape occurred on July 16.
Investigation and Response
The police have filed an FIR under sections 376 and 292 b of the Pakistan Penal Code, charging the suspects with gang-rape. Authorities are actively searching for the other accused. Additionally, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz has requested a detailed report from the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP). He has assured that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators to ensure justice is served.
