Are PTA Approval Charges for Smartphones Set to Be Reduced?
Rumours about PTA approval charges for smartphones are spreading fast. Many buyers want to know if the government plans to reduce the high cost of phone registration.
Public Talk and Market Buzz
Phone sellers in major cities say taxes on premium phones may drop soon. These taxes can reach up to Rs220,000. Even though there is no official update, people are hopeful. High taxes push many users toward illegal or unregistered devices. These include patched phones, JV iPhones and cloned IMEI models. Such phones still appear in markets across Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Sialkot.
What PTA Says About the Charges
The debate increased after a recent public event. PTA’s DG Licensing, Brig (R) Amir Shahzad, said the authority supports lower charges. He explained that the PTA does not set or collect these taxes. The FBR controls them. He also said PTA officials pay the same taxes as regular citizens.
Will the Government Reduce the Fees?
For now, there is no confirmation of a policy change. Still, public pressure is rising. Buyers will have to wait to see if the government offers real relief.
