Ayeza Khan Sparks Controversy by Channeling Princess Diana on Independence Day
Pakistani actress Ayeza Khan, known for her leading roles in hit dramas like Mere Paas Tum Ho, Meherposh, and Humraaz, has landed herself in hot waters this Pakistan Independence Day. The 14.6 million-strong social media icon recreated Princess Diana’s iconic look from her 1991 visit to Lahore. While Ayeza intended to pay homage, many netizens have not taken it lightly.
The original outfit, worn by Princess Diana during a fundraiser for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, was a modest sea-green tunic paired with a white dupatta. Ayeza Khan recreated the look with a darker green shirt, white dupatta, and traditional shalwar—reflecting both simplicity and national colors of Pakistan.
Social Media Divided Over Ayeza’s Diana Tribute
Ayeza Khan’s fans praised her elegant styling and acting in Humraaz, but her Diana-inspired Independence Day look drew mixed reactions. Critics argue that copying a British royal figure on a day celebrating Pakistan’s independence from British rule is ironic, if not tone-deaf.
Some users posted harsh comments like, “Actors will always remain slaves—why copy British royals when you could honor Fatima Jinnah?” Others mocked the look saying, “When you order Lady Diana from Temu or Daraz.” One harsh remark even said, “Ayeza looks like a grandmother.”
Despite the backlash, Ayeza remains a trendsetter in Pakistan’s entertainment industry and continues to shine in Humraaz, while pursuing a diploma in acting from the UK.
