September 10, 2025 KARACHI: As the city braces for heavy rainfall, Karachi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for residents and commuters to help navigate safely through expected urban flooding and waterlogged routes.
With monsoon showers forecasted in various areas, citizens are advised to avoid flood-prone and low-lying areas. The traffic police have recommended a series of alternate routes across key districts, particularly District Central, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and routes to and from the Airport.
District Central – Alternate Routes Due to Flooding
Heavy rainfall has historically caused major blockages in District Central Karachi, especially around Nagan Chowrangi and Sakhi Hassan. The traffic police have provided the following alternate routes:
- Power House → Nagan Chowrangi: This route is often flooded during rains. Avoid if possible.
- Rashid Minhas Road → New Karachi: Use U-turn at Godhra, then proceed via Shafiq Mor to reach New Karachi.
- Sakhi Hassan → Nagan Chowrangi: Opt for Qalandria Chowk → Anda Mor → 4K Chowrangi.
- Board Office → KDA Chowrangi: Diversion advised through Shara-e-Noor Jahan.
- North Nazimabad (Blocks N, H, I): Suggested route – Imtiaz Store → Mujahid Colony → Ziauddin Hospital → Safi College → Landi Kotal → Peoples Chowrangi → Shafiq Mor → New Karachi.
Flood-Prone Points – Shahrah-e-Faisal & East Karachi
Motorists are cautioned to avoid the following locations known for severe water accumulation during rainfall:
- Nursery
- Lal Kothi
- Baloch Colony
- Karsaz
- Drigh Road Underpass
- Kala Board
- Madam Cut
These areas are notorious for traffic jams and breakdowns due to urban flooding.
Airport Routes – Alternate Options During Rain
Travelers heading to or from Jinnah International Airport should consider the following flood-safe alternate routes:
To Airport:
- Shahrah-e-Faisal → Sindhi Muslim → Allah Wali Chowrangi → Tariq Road → Char Minar → PTV Station → Agha Khan Road → Stadium Road → Millennium Mall → Joher Chowrangi → Rabia City → Habib University → Pahlwan Goth → Airport
From Defence to Airport:
- Qayyumabad → Shahrah-e-Bhutto → Shah Faisal Colony → Shama Shopping Mall → Shahrah-e-Faisal → Star Gate → Airport
From Airport to Defence:
- Malir Halt → Anwar Baloch Hotel → Shahrah-e-Bhutto → Qayyumabad → Defence
- Alternate Route: Airport → Pahlwan Goth → Habib University → Rabia City → Joher Chowrangi → Millennium Mall → Stadium Road → Agha Khan Hospital → Char Minar → Tariq Road → Allah Wali Chowrangi → FTC → Korangi Road → Defence
Airport to Garden/Tower:
- Model Colony Graveyard → Jinnah Avenue → Super Highway → Lyari Expressway → Garden/Tower
Airport to Gulshan/Gulistan-e-Jauhar:
- Jinnah Avenue → Race Course → Gulshan/Gulistan-e-Jauhar
