Tourists Trapped as Landslides Hit Jalkhad and Basar
A terrifying night unfolded in Naran Valley as landslides blocked the Gilgit Road, cutting off access to and from the scenic region. The Jalkhad and Basar areas were hit hard, leaving dozens of tourists stranded as massive boulders and debris shut down the critical highway.
Rescue Operation Launched by District Authorities
In an immediate response, the District Administration of Mansehra launched a full-scale emergency operation. Key departments including Rescue 1122, NHA, KDA, and local police worked overnight alongside community volunteers. With assistance from the Pakistan Army, stranded tourists and their vehicles were rescued and provided with food and emergency care.
Alternative Routes Opened, Debris Clearance Underway
Authorities managed to open alternative routes via MNJ Road to ease traffic. Meanwhile, efforts to clear the remaining debris from Gilgit Road are ongoing.
