Pakistan’s Naila Kiani Scales Kanchenjunga has become the first Pakistani to summit Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters) on the Nepal-India border. Now, she is the first from Pakistan to scale 12 of the 14 peaks higher than 8,000 meters and is approaching the group of fewer than 20 women worldwide who have achieved all 14 eight-thousanders.
Kiani arrived at the summit on Friday at around 6:00 AM local time. They started the ascent the night before from Camp IV, dealing with difficult terrain and very bad weather, including both heavy snow and cold temperatures.
Climbing Kanchenjunga will be a severe test, Kiani explained, noting it’s no surprise how hard it is to climb mountains that high.
Kiani can now claim to have scaled Everest, K2, Broad Peak, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I and II, Annapurna, Lhotse, Manaslu, Makalu, and Cho Oyu in addition to O corps.
Besides being a famous mountaineer, Kiani has a career in aerospace engineering, banking, amateur boxing, and raising two children. She is respected for her achievements in sports and helping women because she was named the National Goodwill Ambassador for Girls’ Education by Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education.
With only two eight-thousanders left, Naila Kiani Scales Kanchenjunga is almost guaranteed to become the first Pakistani and one of the few women anywhere to climb all 14 highest peaks.
People continue to look up to her for her attitude and achievements in reaching the top of a high mountain.
