According to initial reports, the incident occurred at a farm house. The accused allegedly held his wife against her will. He also reportedly seized her mobile phone. The confinement lasted for two months.
Iqrar ul Hassan Points Out a Major Issue in the Case
Senior journalist Iqrar ul Hassan has now stepped into the debate. He highlighted a critical flaw in the defense being built for Faruqi.
The victim’s family contacted authorities. They reported the two-month-long ordeal. They confirmed the wrongful confinement and violence.
The Flawed Defense: “She Was Pregnant”
Some social media friends are defending Jameel Faruqi. Their argument is specific. They say the wife was pregnant and the husband did not want her to go to her parents’ home. They add that her family home is on the second floor.
Iqrar ul Hassan rejects this excuse completely. He states that even accepting this claim does not justify anything.
No Justification for Violence or Forced Detention
Iqrar ul Hassan made his stance very clear. Forcibly detaining anyone’s daughter is a crime. Subjecting a pregnant woman to violence is worse.
There is no excuse for such behavior. Pregnancy does not allow confinement. It does not allow the seizure of a phone. And it never justifies violence.
A Regrettable Political Defense
Iqrar ul Hassan expressed deep regret. He noted that the accused belongs to a specific political party (PTI). Instead of condemning the act, some are defending the man.
This is a dangerous trend. Justice should not be political. Wrongful confinement is wrong regardless of party affiliation.
