In the horror sequel Chhorii 2, Soha Ali Khan’s character goes through a transformation that is drastically different from her previous works. This time round, she is playing the antagonist – the Daasi Maa. This role is a drastic departure from her well-received, dignified, girl-next-door parts that have so far marked her career.
Soha described the experience of acting as completely “out of my comfort zone“, underlining how demanding physically and mentally this role was. There were variations in dialect and costumes, which were accompanied by somewhat action-oriented sequences involving her being suspended in the air-bouncing on wires.
The transformation did not spare her personal life. While she was shooting, her husband, Kunal Khemu, avoided video calls with her, while their daughter, Inaaya, was fascinated with her mother’s portrayal of the evil character.
Chhorii 2 continues from the last position with Nushrratt Bharuccha reprising her role. Directed by Vishal Furia, the storyline revolves around other social evils and supernatural aspects, of which Soha’s character will play a crucial role in developing the storyline.
