Anger spread online after the Lahore pet market was demolished in an early morning raid by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). Shopkeepers said cats, dogs, and birds were trapped and buried under debris. Videos from the site showed heartbreaking scenes of people pulling animals from the rubble.
LDA and Welfare Groups Disagree
The LDA claimed no animals were harmed and shared clips of staff removing cages. However, local animal rescue groups Todd’s Welfare Society and JFK Animal Rescue posted shocking footage of injured and dead animals being recovered.
Public Demands Justice
Social media users called the act “cruel” and “inhumane.” Many urged Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to punish those responsible. Activist Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr. accused her of showing concern for animals only during global events.
The Lahore pet market demolition has raised urgent questions about animal rights and government accountability in Pakistan
