Every once in a while, Bollywood hits us with a movie trailer that not only gets our attention but gets a hold of us and does not let go. Chhaava, Vicky Kaushal’s latest film, appeared to be such a film. The latest released teaser has caused much stir on social media platforms and there remains a growing audience anticipation of what the movie producers have in stock for them this time having in mind the fact that the whole movie has been presented to be a thriller.
A Glimpse into the Darkness
The teaser of Chhaava is well-designed in that it presents taste and gives glimpses of what is to be expected, but at the same time, it does not reveal how much is there to watch. The aesthetics are dark and full of tension – something that is very clearly reflected in the design of the visuals. The minute one sets eyes on the main character, it’s equally obvious this is not going to be your conventional Bollywood flick. Chhaava however, seems all set to plunge into the raw and the raw details of human souls at times, even savage.
Of late, Punjabi actor Vicky Kaushal who has had a versatility in choice of his films and the way he portrays his characters seems to have gone a notch higher than his previous works. The character of Carter is revealed in the teaser only a few times but it is enough to build a complete image of him as a rather ambiguous character. From the teaser video and from the look and power Kaushal brought to the table with his gritty, steely-eyed gaze, it can be assumed that Chhaava will touch on themes of power, vengeance, and survival.
A Performance to Remember
Kaushal has consistently proven his mettle as an actor, with critically acclaimed performances in films like Masaan, and Uri: Of these movies, two titles are “The Surgical Strike” and “Sardar Udham.” Chhaava however seems to take him to a bleaker acting zone if there is one. The teaser builds the idea of a character that is suffering and obsessed, and with Kaushal in the lead, one can expect him to be the point of discussion when it comes to the movie.
The change of appearance that one would be inclined to think Kaushal has made for this role is evident. In terms of appearance, Boyd looks like the typical action hero, muscular and angular fits the gritty image of the movie and contributes to the eerie atmosphere that the teaser gives off. It is not the ‘aww’ Vicky Kaushal, the boy next door we have seen for the longest time, but a man in throat-clearing trouble and possible self-destruction.
A Viewing Adventure Still in Store
The very direction and cinematography of the Chhaava have to be appreciated. The teaser is very dark and employs a lot of shadows 90s, low contrast color the tight close-ups are also indicative of the fact that the movie is going to be rather stiff and tense. The music also contributes to creating the mood, with the most chilling teaser music that leaves you shivering long after the teaser is over.
While the storyline of Chhaava has not been disclosed yet, the idea that the makers have given through the teaser is that of having an intense story to tell. Whether it’s a tale of revenge, redemption, or something entirely different, one thing is clear: It can thus be said that Chhaava is not a type of film that one will be likely to forget.
Conclusion
As the audiences wait for the show, Chhaava has the potential to be one of the best releases of recent years. Its launch generates a lot of adrenaline pumped up by Vicky Kaushal’s physical transformation and the high-octane trailer. That said, if the full feature is as good as the teaser of Chhaava, then this could easily turn out as a flagship project in Kaushal’s filmography as well as a great film in Bollywood. All that remains to be done now is to ‘wait and watch’, but one thing is for sure they have made Chhaava give us goosebumps already!
