Azaan Sami Khan, who is a Pakistani singer and music composer, recently caused patriotic feelings on the internet after sharing a rare video from the 1965 Indo-Pak war that featured his great-grandfather, Arshad Sami Khan, a name that is often overshadowed by his famous son, Adnan Sami’s Father but who was the real Arshad Sami Khan, and why would his legacy be important?
A Hero of the Skies: Air Commodore Arshad Sami Khan
Arshad Sami Khan was a decorated officer in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), who was famously known for his courageous participation in the 1965 war between Pakistan and India. He was born in the year 1942, and therefore he was among the youngest fighter pilots at a period when Pakistan’s military history was to be shaped.
The black and white video that has recently been circulated and shared by his grandson, Azaan Sami Khan, is a reflection of Air Commodore Arshad Sami Khan in action for PAF. The footage only not only attests his valor, but also infuses the notion of this generation that sacrificed their lives and professional careers for the country’s defense.

From Fighter Pilot to Diplomat
Adnan Sami’s Father, Arshad Sami Khan, had various diplomatic positions after his brilliant military career. He served Pakistan as a diplomat in important positions in various parts of the world as the ambassador to 14 countries and served as Chief of Protocol to three presidents and a prime minister of Pakistan.
Three Presidents and an Aide, his memoir, reveals a raw picture of Pakistan’s political and diplomatic world in turbulent times, and exposes intrigues of top-level events in the country.
Legacy and Family Ties
Although the name of Arshad Sami Khan may not ring through as much in the entertainment sphere, his legacy lives on in his son Adnan Sami Khan, the award-winning singer and composer, who, though born in Pakistan, later acquired Indian citizenship. Adnan had always spoken of his father with great reverence, admitting to the discipline and pride held upon him because of his father’s military training.
A Timely Reminder
The video emerged at the time when the nation commemorates its war heroes especially on the occasion of the Defence Day-commemorated on 6 th September in Pakistan. It is a strong reminder of the country’s history and individual histories that make up the essence of national pride.
