Other Benefits of Rose Water

While the western world has just started acknowledging the benefits of rose water in the skin and beauty regime, Indians are not only aware of its multitudes of benefits but also have been using the same since the times of Ayurveda which suggests that the effects of rose water extend beyond just skin. According to ancient Ayurvedic texts, rose water balances ‘sadhaka pitta’ that governs our emotions. Here are some profound benefits of using rose water on the face that is skin deep.

Rose extract has a calming effect on the central nervous system, a fact that has been highlighted in ancient Indian Ayurveda, too. Apart from this, rose water is also believed to have sleep-inducing properties.

Used in Hair Treatments

Rose water is an astringent and an antioxidant that when used on the scalp can reduce oiliness, prevent dandruff and help smooth frizzy hair because of its moisturizing properties. Rose water is especially useful for people suffering from dandruff. It also soothes an itchy scalp and can promote healthy scalp conditions conducive to hair growth. Rose water can be sprayed directly onto the scalp and hair two to three times a week.

To extract the maximum benefits of rose water on the face, we suggest using it like a toner and a cleanser depending on your skin type:

How to Use Rose Water

A. Rose Water as a Toner

Pure rose water can be used as a toner since it is a good antioxidant. It also has anti-bacterial properties that can help soothe inflamed skin and help control excess sebum production. Here’s how to incorporate rose water as a toner in your night-time routine:

  1. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry to remove excess water.
  2. Soak a cotton pad with natural rose water and apply it gently all over your face.
  3. Alternatively, one can also spray the rose water directly from the bottle onto the face from it 5 to 6 inches away.
  4. Let it air dry and apply a layer of moisturizer.

B. Rose Water as a Cleanser

Albeit gentle, rose water can be used to extract grime and dirt that is left behind by regular cleansers by combining it with other powerful natural ingredients like Fuller’s Earth or Multani mitti.

  1. Mix 2-3 teaspoons of organic rose water with 1 teaspoon of Multani mitti. Whisk the mixture until it is smooth and free of clumps.
  2. Apply the mixture on the face and spread it evenly while massaging your face with it in gentle circular motions.
  3. Let the pack sit on the face for a couple of minutes or till you feel the Fuller’s earth beginning to dry.
  4. Wipe the pack with a warm and damp washcloth.
  5. Gently wash your face with lukewarm water.
