Skin is probably the most underrated part of our body which needs a whole lot of attention and care. And when you think of how you should be taking care of your skin and the way makeup plays such an essential role in it all, you will be amazed by how you need to ensure that the way you apply makeup is applicable to your skin type. When you know your skin’s undertone, it may help you choose the kind of foundation or color palette that best suit your hue. If you wear any kind of face makeup at all, it’s crucial you understand your skin tone to be able to find the correct shade of foundation and concealer. Plus, learning your skin tone can help you to choose flattering shades for clothing, lipstick, hair color, and more. Unlike yesteryears when the categories of “light”, “medium”, and “dark” were enough to find a decent match, today’s wide assortment of face products and foundation lines with more targeted shade ranges warrants a better understanding of our skin’s unique hue.

Undertone is often one of the most misunderstood (or ignored) elements of skin tone. Basically, the undertone is exactly what it sounds like; the color tone underneath the surface color of your skin. Unlike surface color, which can change with a tan or certain brightening products, your undertone remains constant.
The three undertones are:
Cool – Characterized by a bluish undertone to the skin.
Warm – A golden or peach-colored undertone.
Neutral – A neutral undertone is neither cool nor warm. For darker skin tones, a neutral undertone would have an olive tint.

Now let me look into why it even matters when it comes to knowing your skin’s undertone. Actually, there are many combinations of undertones and skin tones. And knowing your undertone is essential as it allows you to choose the kind of makeup for you. As you definitely need to assure that your skin is getting the best kind of makeup. There are so many benefits you will be getting when you know which skin undertone suits you.
The first essential thing is that it allows you to choose clothes better. After you know your skin’s undertone, you can pick the right colored clothes to look your best. Warm tones can wear warm colors and cool tones can wear cool colors. And of course, it leads to amazing makeup choices. Now that you’ve figured out your undertone, it is time to pick the right foundation, eyeshadow colors, and lipsticks. Yes, all of these are well-connected to one another. Some tips that work really well. Choose warm shades if you have warm undertones, and cool colors if you have cool undertones. This makes your makeup complement your natural complexion. And did you know it really plays a strong role on the kind of hair color you will be donning? Warm skin tones should pick cool hair colors, while cool skin tones need to go for warm hair colors. This is essential to know as that will be leading to you getting a really good look.
One thing many people should know is that your skin tone will be changing as you age. You may experience the darkening of some areas of your skin as you age- this is quite common. The patchy appearance of skin color on the face and hands of older people is due to the uneven distribution of pigment cells or melanocytes. Skin tones can change with the season and sun exposure too, but undertones remain the same. Something that actually works if you have friends that provide some really good insights too. If your friends say you’re very “fair,” your skin tone is mostly light. If they’re always pointing out how tan you look, you may be medium. If you look pale in the winter, but tan in the summer, you may be deep. Yes, that is true, and works quite well sometimes. Your undertones can provide some insights into what looks best against your natural skin color. Still, your personal preferences are more important than what any color chart suggests. If you feel happy and healthy in a color that’s considered to be outside of your palette, buck the rules and go for it! At the end of the day, you should wear whatever helps you feel like your best self.
