The Karachi Police Announce Comprehensive Traffic Plan to secure the public and the movement of vehicles during New Year’s Eve in Karachi. Due to the expected flow of people especially throughout the city and particularly in Clifton, Sea View, and some of the principal business places the authorities want to avoid congestion and traffic jams.
Road Closures and Diversions
The Karachi Police Announce Comprehensive Traffic Plan has declared that certain roads will be choked for the movement of cars on December 31, 2024, so that the chances of having any awful happening and joining Barney’s groups will also not be allowed on the said night. Notably:
- Sea View and Clifton Roads: People will be allowed to proceed to and from Sea View by vehicle but will be restricted from doing so from 8 PM onwards and will be ferried through other routes in the meantime.
- Shahrah-e-Faisal: Certain portions of this vital corridor will be diverted towards and away from the airport to allow for adequate traffic regulation.
The public is encouraged to be very careful on the roads to avoid areas that are most likely to experience traffic congestion.
Parking Restrictions
The authorities have also placed a bar on roadside parking that has caused some form of congestion and insecurity to parked cars due to threats from snatchers at Clifton Boat Basin and Do Darya. People are advised to park their vehicles in proper parking zones or walk away from the store, and use a taxi, or an Uber.
Security and Sobriety Checks
To stop and search such people, Karachi Police have placed their personnel at different places in the city. Police officers will patrol, and ensure all vehicles possess valid licenses, both the owner and the car are legally registered, and all passengers are wearing helmets where required. Extra precautions have been taken with a specific view of nailing reckless drivers, one-wheelers, and vehicle owners who have borrowed modified silent horns.
Also, random breath testing sites will be provided to affect the law against driving under the influence. Residents or people who intend to visit Karachi are made to urgently rethink the no-tolerance policy over drunk driving and the risk of being fined heavily or arrested.
Public Transport and Ride-Sharing Services
Due to this, the police have consulted with public transportation and taxi-hailing services because of the large turnout. People are encouraged to share or find other methods of transport than to drive, in order to avoid traffic jams and potential waiting times.
Emergency Services on Standby
To ensure that there are adequate security disaster control crews, including ambulance services and fire brigades, will be placed strategically at periodic intervals along the route across Karachi. They can add 15 to directly get help or call in case of an emergency.
Appeal to Citizens
The Karachi Police ADGM has urged the public to have a good time responsibly and help officers make New Year’s Eve a fun time for everyone. A senior police officer in a statement said, “We should usher in 2024 with more civility and lawful conduct.”
By following the guidelines, citizens of Karachi can also contribute towards festive but lawless celebrations. Informed, safe, and free to enjoy the new year and everyone’s first promise of success at the beginning of the year.
