Lahore High Court Suspends Meesha Shafi’s Rs 50 Lakh Damages, With Conditions

Ali Zafar versus Meesha Shafi harassment case is an ongoing battle. The viewers are waiting patiently for the High Court ruling. In between the harassment case the Lahore High Court initially gave a verdict on the defamation case filed by Ali Zafar. The Lahore High Court has delivered a key ruling in the Ali Zafar vs. Meesha Shafi defamation case. It conditionally suspended the Rs 50 lakh damages awarded against Meesha Shafi. However, the court did not grant a complete suspension of the trial court’s original ruling.

Restrictions on Meesha Shafi Remain by High Court!

The High Court maintained a crucial restriction.Meesha Shafi is still barred from repeating her allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar. This means she cannot publicly re-state the claims that led to the legal battle.

Conditions for the Suspension

The court set clear financial terms for the suspension. The High Court directed Meesha Shafi to deposit half of the damages amount (Rs 25 lakh) with the court. Additionally, she must submit a surety bond for the remaining Rs 25 lakh. Only after meeting these conditions will the suspension of the damages award take full effect.

Next Steps in the Ali Zafar Vs Meesha Shafi Case

The Lahore High Court has also issued a formal notice to Ali Zafar. Ali Zafar must now submit his response to Meesha Shafi’s appeal. The case will proceed once the court receives his reply.

Legal experts note that the court balanced both sides: reducing monetary pressure while upholding the trial court’s ban on repeating allegations.

Background of the Case

The defamation case originated from sexual harassment allegations Meesha Shafi made against Ali Zafar in 2018. Ali Zafar sued for defamation, claiming the accusations damaged his reputation. In May 2024, a trial court awarded Ali Zafar Rs 50 lakh in damages and prohibited Meesha Shafi from repeating her claims. Meesha Shafi appealed that decision, leading to this week’s High Court ruling.
