The Pakistan tour of South Africa 2024 has reached its last leg. With just one test match remaining to be played.
The hosts took the T20I series home with their 2-0 victory. Whereas the tourists took their revenge in the ODI series with their 3-0 clean sweep.
All eyes were now on the PAK vs SA test series. As these matches were crucial in deciding the series winner as well as the WTC final qualification scenario for South Africa.
On 29th December, the Proteas secured a narrow two-wicket victory over the Men in Green. Despite Mohammad Abbas’ fighting efforts and a magnificent bowling spell of 6/54. The Pakistan team lost the match and further pushed away their chance of qualifying for the WTC final.
The World Test Championship 2023-2025 has reached its climax stage!
With just a few games remaining to be played before the final in June 2025.
With the points table taking up shape, South Africa, India, and Australia. They were the top three contenders to qualify for the final at Lord’s.
India and Australia are already battling it out amongst each other in the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Whereas South Africa has become the 1st team to qualify for the World Test Championship Final with their victory against Pakistan.
The Proteas had a great start to their WTC campaign as they won their 1st match against India by an innings and 32 runs.
On the other hand, the Pakistan team is at the bottom of the barrel. Pakistan’s chance to qualify for the WTC final was long gone and their recent loss against South Africa further cemented it.
Pakistan’s recent 3-0 loss against Australia and a 2-0 home series whitewash against Bangladesh created a massive dent in their qualification chances.
Although the Men in Green did bounce back in the home test series against England. It was too late to fix the damage that had already been done.
The Pakistan team played a total of nine games in the ongoing World Test Championship. They emerged victorious on 3 occasions and suffered defeat in the remaining 6 matches.
With no real chance of qualifying for the WTC final. Will the Pakistan team put in their best effort in the upcoming PAK vs SA 2nd test?
