The meteorologists are predicting gusts of wind that could reach up to 70 mph in some areas. Which poses risks of falling trees and damage to structures. The heavy rainfall associated with Storm Bert is likely to lead to localized flooding. Especially in low-lying areas and regions already saturated from previous weather events.
Precautionary measures by authorities!
Authorities are urging residents to prepare for the storm by securing outdoor items. Moreover staying informed about the latest weather updates, and having emergency plans in place. The situation will be monitored closely. Not only this but updates will be provided as the storm progresses. Snow and freezing Rain predicted!
While wind and rain will create challenges for many this weekend, some areas may still face winter hazards. With very cold air present across the UK this week. Storm Bert is set to bring rain on Saturday. Which will collide with Arctic air. Hence potentially resulting in significant snowfall in northern England and Scotland during the morning.
There may also be instances of freezing rain. Where rain falls onto frozen surfaces and freezes on contact, creating dangerously icy conditions. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for snow that will take effect throughout Saturday.
Higher ground in Scotland and northern England could see as much as 30-40 cm (12-16 in) of snow. Along with strong winds expected, blizzard conditions may occur on some elevated routes. In the Vale of York, a temporary accumulation of 5-10 cm (2-4 in) of snow is possible.
However, as temperatures rise, any snow or freezing rain is likely to transition back to regular rain, which could lead to some flooding issues.
