After the mega success of ‘Humsafar’ the bar for Pakistani drama was set so high that people always try to break ‘Humsafars’ record. And alas it finally happened with the mega success of ‘Tere Bin’
Yumna zaidi is a method actress but this time Wahaj Ali has won my heart with his role in Tere Bin. From expressions and gestures to dialogues, he nailed it. Considering the lead pair’s fan following and how desperately the audience wanted to see them together after the success of their previous collaboration, Dil Na Umeed To Nahi, it was expected to become a massive hit.
Produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, Tere Bin has been directed by Siraj Ul Haq and the story has been penned by Nooran Makhdoom. Apart from Wahaj and Yumna, who play Murtasim and Meerab, the mega drama features a star-studded cast including Bushra Ansari, Sohail Sameer, Sabeena Farooq, Hira Somorro, Fazila Qazi, Farhan Aly Agha, Haris Waheed, Seemi Pashah, Mehmood Aslam, Agha Mustafa and several others in key roles.
Although the story may lack novelty, it does not mean the story is unappealing. The aesthetic is very similar to other cross-border melodramas; such as grand sets, stunning women adoring make-up and jewelry, and slow-motion close-ups. However, what sets the story apart is its power-packed performances. The cast is aptly chosen – and all are doing their part with conviction. Seasoned actress Bushra Ansari plays authoritative Bhabhi Begum – and from get-up to body language she is in full control of her character. Sameer Sohail plays Meerab’s father who disowns her at the time of birth. Realizing his mistake, he now wants to win over his daughter who is in complete denial of reality. She is unable to cope with the harsh reality of her life. She wants to go back to Waqas Ahmed (Fahan Ally Agha) and Alina (Fazila Qazi) but they can’t accept her as it is against Bhabhi Begum’s will.
I am a great fan of Yumna Zaidi. I watched her Inkaar, Pyar Ke Sadqay, Ishq Zahe Naseeb, Dil Na Umeed To Nahi, Parizaad, Ishq e Laa, Sinf e Aahan, Yeh Raha Dil, Pukaar, Zara Yaad Kar, Bakhtawar etc before. Watched Wahaj’s Ishq Jalebi, Ehd e Wafa, DNUTN, Mah e Tamam, Fitoor etc. Both of them worked before in Dil Na Umeed To Nahi (I loved this drama too). After watching this one, I was thinking makers should cast them in a new drama. That’s why when I watched the trailer of Tere Bin, I was so keen to watch this drama. The first few episodes were quite cliched but the rest of them made history. Wow!! Last time I was so hooked with pak dramas were some Ramadan dramas such as Chupke Chupke, Ishq Jalebi and Chaudhry and Sons. These were comedy dramas so that’s a different thing. Tere Bin is such an intense drama but surprisingly quite entertaining. Yumna is so versatile actress we all know that but this time Wahaj surprised me a lot. He never portrayed a role like Murtasim before. And only Yumna can portray the best Meerab of course. The drama doesn’t have any unique story line, I completely agree with that. But it’s really difficult to make a drama that contains a very simple story but still it manages to entertain you a lot. My Nanii (my Grandmother) and I are enjoying this drama so much. Both Meerab and Murtasim have some flaws in their characters but they shine in their own ways. Their good characteristics covers all the flaws. I’m so pleased with the writer. She delivered such an amazing job. But what I didn’t like is the slap scenes. This kind of activity doesn’t suit the characters like Murtasim and Maa Begum. And it’s high time we should stop promoting this.
I used to think maybe it’s not possible to make dramas like Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai where we adore the chemistry between the main leads. But after watching Tere Bin I am convinced it’s still possible. What we really need is good writer and director. There are lots of good actors in the industry. I am so pleased that Yumna and Wahaj got these roles as no other actors can portray these two iconic characters better than them. I really wish YumHaj will be cast again as a lead couple in a good drama.
Tere Bin will be remembered for a long time like Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai. It has become a modern romantic classic. In addition to Wahaj-Yumna has become an iconic onscreen couple like Fawad-Sanam and Fawad-Mahira. Finally the era of Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai has ended. This is the beginning of new era… This is TERE BIN era!! Nooran Makhddom, Siraj ul Haque, GEO TV, Wahaj, Yumna and all the cast and crew did brilliant job indeed.
Tere Bin does have a star plus touch to it, but trends prove that it is being watched and enjoyed. It is an OTT (over-the-top media) fantasy for the audience that isn’t looking for depth and logic in every scene. Great production value and chemistry between the lead actors make it an entertaining watch
