CELEB FITNESS IN FOCUS Here’s Actress/Model Zainab Raja spilling her secrets to Social Diary:

With the onset of a pandemic, remaining fit is becoming a tad harder than usual. Here’s to getting inspiration from your favorite stars on how to keep the rhythm going and maintaining a wholesome lifestyle.

What is your philosophy on health and fitness?
Eat whatever you want, but do so in moderation. Workout doesn’t have to be boring. You should look forward to it.

Would you call yourself a health freak-elaborate?
Yes, I call myself a health freak. I don’t count my calories but I need to know what I’m eating and what nutritional benefits I’m getting.

Any fad diets that worked for you?
I do not believe in fad diets. I think they do more harm than good. But I recommend intermittent fasting for people who want to cleanse and detox their system.

Eating Healthy or Working Out? What works better for you?
70 percent of our body is what we eat and 30 percent is exercise so I would say Eating healthy. But workout is an important part of my lifestyle too.

Your wellness routine before going to bed?
A night time skincare regimen. Aroma therapy with soy scented candles in the room. Calming music and meditation for at least 15 mins before sleep.

The first thing you aim to do right after waking up?
I take 1 cup of warm water with apple cider vinegar. Meditate for 15 mins. Do not touch my phone for at least an hour after waking up.

How do you keep your workout interesting at home during pandemic?
I am a yoga practitioner and dance enthusiast so both of these workouts can be easily done alone and home so I never have gotten bored in the 1st place.

Your views on adapting superficial standards of beauty? How can these be rectified?
For me beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. If I’m not secure in the way I look or do not own my imperfections then I have every right to change them. But that doesn’t mean I have to succumb to societal / social media pressure of adapting to every trend.

What is your health motto?
Eat sleep workout repeat

Your favorite smoothie/healthy beverage recipe
Detox water which I mentioned above and Apple cider vinegar in water.

Do you believe in cheat days? If so, what’s the main item on the menu?
I eat whatever I want but in moderation and don’t believe in cheat days. But if I have to answer I would say my cheat meals are chai and coffee and I drink them daily

A fitness guru you idolize?
Rujuta Divekar who is a nutritionist of many celebrities. She focuses on wholesome meals and not on crazy diets.

What are your picks for
the following perfect meals?

• Breakfast: Toast and butter / peanut butter with orange juice.
• Pre-workout: Bananas
• Post-workout: None
• Lunch: High protein foods like steak or Greek yogurt
• Dinner: Anything homemade
•Snacks: Lotus seeds, nuts, sugar free dark chocolate
•Guilty pleasures: Coffee and hot chocolate

From where does your inspiration to living fit comes from?
It comes from my mother. She always taught me about nutrition and benefits of eating healthy while I was growing up so now it’s kind of my second nature.

Do you follow and adapt meditation tactics in your daily routine?
I stress out easily and deal with social anxiety on a daily basis. Meditation is the only thing that keeps me sane.

Working out at home or the gym?
I prefer working out at home. I used to take yoga classes before pandemic and now I do it at home. I think this is working out for me even better. I go out for cycling at night a few times a week.

When out with friends, where do you often like to dine?
Xanders and Flo
