Felix Baumgartner is an Austrian skydiver and daredevil famous for his historic jump from the stratosphere on October 14, 2012. While he is often associated with Australia due to his adventurous spirit. He was actually born in Salzburg, Austria. Baumgartner’s jump was part of the Red Bull Stratos project. Which aimed to explore the limits of human freefall and gather data for future aerospace research. Hence, he became the first man to jump from space.

On that day, Baumgartner ascended to an altitude of 128,100 feet (approximately 39 kilometers). In a helium-filled balloon. He wore a specially designed spacesuit to protect him from the extreme conditions of the stratosphere. Where temperatures can drop to minus 70 degrees Fahrenheit. After reaching the target altitude. He stepped out of the capsule and began his freefall. During the jump, he reached a maximum speed of 843.6 miles per hour (1,357.6 kilometers per hour). Ultimately becoming the first human to break the sound barrier without the aid of an aircraft.
