A female doctor in Kohat, Pakistan was shot and killed after she politely asked a man to wait outside a women’s check-up area. The tragic incident has sparked nationwide outrage and protests.
Deadly Dispute Over Hospital Waiting Area
Reports indicate Dr. Mehwish confronted a male visitor inside the hospital. She inform him the area was reserve for female patients. She politely request that he wait in the men’s waiting area until the examination was completed . The situation escalated into a heated dispute. The man reportedly left the area but waited for her outside. When Dr. Mehwish left the hospital after her shift, the same visitor allegedly intercepted her and opened fire .
Attack Outside Hospital Gates
Dr. Mehwish was traveling home in a rickshaw after completing her duty. Unknown assailants ambushed her on Double Road in the KDA area. She was shot multiple times and died on the spot .
Doctors Launch Widespread Protests
The medical community erupted in outrage following the murder. Doctors gathered at the District Headquarters Hospital late at night to protest. The Young Doctors Association (YDA) announced a complete strike across all public hospitals in the district.

Awami National Party provincial president Mian Iftikhar Hussain condemned the killing. He described it as a tragic incident. He said the murder of a “healer and saviour of life is heartbreaking and alarming” .
