In a significant legal development, an Islamabad district and sessions court has granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana fake receipt case . The court also approved bail for Imran Khan in five other cases, including charges related to attempted murder and defaming the army .
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka issued the written orders on Tuesday, granting pre-arrest bail to the former prime minister in six cases and to his wife in one case . The court approved their release against surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each .
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Toshakhana fake receipt case:
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi faced accusations of committing fraud by presenting a fake receipt . The receipt falsely indicated the sale of gifts. Such as watches and cufflinks, allegedly obtained from Toshakhana using forged signatures .
Bail Granted in Army Defamation Case
The court also granted bail to Imran Khan in a case relating to alleged defamatory remarks against senior army figures . According to the FIR, Manzoor Ahmad, a learned magistrate, was watching TV on a private news channel when Imran Khan levelled allegations against army officers . The petitioner claimed that army officers “wanted to see him defeated and killed” .
The complainant alleged that Imran Khan defamed army officers using derogatory language, creating unrest in society . However, the court ruled that no material evidence had been brought on record proving that the petitioner committed the offence . The prosecution was unable to produce any speech or evidence showing that he had spoken against the Pakistan Army .
Legal experts note that pre-arrest bail serves as a protective measure, allowing individuals to avoid arrest while investigations proceed . The court’s decision means both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will remain free as the legal process moves forward, pending further hearings and potential developments in the cases.
