In the controversial social media posts case, an Islamabad court has rejected Imaan Mazari’s acquittal plea. This sudden development has increased public interest, as the case already involves sensitive accusations and claims of unfair trial procedures.
Court’s Decision and Defence Objections
During the hearing, Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka also dismissed Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha’s challenge to the state-appointed defence counsel. The defence argued that the counsel did not meet the required experience. They also said they had no confidence in the appointment. Despite these objections, the court continued with the trial. Earlier, the prosecution witnesses had already completed their statements. Even so, the defence requested the court to recall them for proper cross-examination.
Urgent Appeal to the Supreme Court
At the same time, Mazari has moved the Supreme Court for urgent relief. She claims that evidence was recorded in her absence, which violates Section 353 of the CrPC. Moreover, she says this breaches her right to a fair trial under Article 10A. The appeal warns that the trial may lead to an unfair conviction if the process is not corrected.
As the controversial social media posts case nears its final stage, all eyes are on the next hearing. The defence hopes the Supreme Court will intervene before the trial concludes.
