Get ready to chill and beat the summer heat with these home prep tips!

As summer sets in with a vengeance, it’s time to create that perfect cool environment at home and prepare your dwelling to beat the sweltering heat.

Plan wisely, bring in a softer, breezier, gentler look, and do away with heavy materials around the house. We’ve also listed the home improvements that you can follow to get through summer

Go For Translucence

An airy and light ambience makes rooms feel more spacious during the summer months. Put your heavy drapes away and use flowy, sheer curtains that are breathable. They allow light to filter through, imbuing the space with a romantic grace.

Declutter

Organize your home smartly and create lots of storage options. Your home must be light and bright. Keeping your space minimal will help you declutter the mind and will create an environment for self-care.

Use Simple And Rustic Materials

A wooden floor, natural stone, cane or rattan, natural textures – these instantly have a calming effect on the mind. Instead of a boxy black planter, use a jute laundry bag, for example, as it gives the feeling of the outdoors while still being part of an indoor set-up.

Home

Add Citrusy Cheer

Bring in a touch of Italy with lemons! Add them to a bowl, make them your centerpiece.  A mini orange or lemon
plant can charmingly enhance your space.

Home

Bring In Flowers
Create a vivacious Indian summer with lovely sunflowers! Right out of a Van Gogh painting, a bunch of bright sunflowers arranged in the home is a delight.

Home

Hang Greenery
Bringing in the outdoors with hanging plants gives the illusion of airy curtains of green and has a calming effect. They enhance air quality, especially in today’s times. Aesthetically speaking, creepers and hanging plants are more appealing in the summer. Vertical gardens are also a good option as they take up little space.

Home

Go Neutral
Summers remind us of the beach, the sea and the muted colours of marine life. Use cool and calming tones with pops of pale colour to replicate this setting. Pale blue and dusty rose with white or beige make the perfect palette for the summer. If you’re not fond of too much colour, go with bold white walls, adding that muted coolness to a space.

Home

Use Soft Curves
If you’re renovating or designing your home, bring in softly curved silhouettes. Curves resonate with nature, and they are welcoming in any surroundings; this form can be seen in your sofas, headboards or partitions. Scalloped chairs are also great. Use clean lines to complement and contrast in the space.

Home

Pick Colorful Glass Décor With Vintage Elements
Rustic and antique pieces enhanced by colorful glass pieces in a modern setting are in vogue. Colorful vases, glass bottles or any glass element add character to a space and make a bold and light statement.

Home

Try Floral Elements

Tropical prints never go out of fashion. If those are too audacious a statement for you, opt for floral paintings or wallpaper to add an alfresco element. Along with abstract floral or even minimalist floral patterns add a subtle tranquility.
Home

Enhance Your Open Spaces

Decorate your open spaces, especially if you have a deck or balcony. Make it welcoming and hospitable by adding wicker or rattan furniture, plants, antique lamps or even artificial turf.

Home

Go Green
Green works in summer because it symbolises nature. Accent pillows with pops of orange and yellow bring some quirk and fun to your couch. Replace heavy and bold coloured sheets with light-coloured linen fabrics. Opt for fabric sofas instead of leather to minimise the heat transmitted to your body. Leave the heavily-textured throws for winter and select lighter ones for now.

Home

Axe The Rugs
Rugs are too hot for summer; swap them for dhurries. Or just put away all mats and embrace your lovely wood, stone or marble floor. Keep your floor décor minimal to make your space seem roomier.

Home

Seek Summer Scents
Smell can be a potent aphrodisiac! Bring in fresh flowers and plants, and even candles and wall diffusers are well-deserved indulgences. Moreover fruity scents complemented by vanilla and coconut are great for the tropical summer. Different fragrances can ease your mind and induce a feeling of nostalgia.

Harness The Tower
Tower coolers are probably one of your best investments against the heat. Not only gone are the days of ugly standing fans; you can choose from more technologically advanced, sleeker products these days.

Raise The Bar

Get ready for the weekend summer vibes on your deck or in your apartment with a mobile bar cart. Fill it with chilled lemonade, rosés, beers and Aperol spritzes. Along with dress it up year-round with candles, mini plants and lamps. It is a practical and valuable addition to your home.

Home

Pare Down
This is the time to optimise the setting of your furniture pieces and keep décor minimal. Find a corner to put a lounge chair and sheer curtains; it will become your napping and reading area. Along with adding innovative elements such as mirrors can make any room look bigger.

Home

Let The World In
Summer is synonymous with experiences and travel. Add small accessories and elements to your space that make you recall your adventures. How about a quirky world map, a unique figurine or a cultural artefact?

Home

Use Water To Cool And Calm
A water element is great to get you through the heat, and you don’t need a magnificent waterfall. A transparent water dispenser is visually appealing and aesthetically calming. Fill it with your rose sangria, or add lemon, cucumber and mint leaves to infuse water.

Keep It Lit
Not every apartment has enormous windows and natural light flowing in, but you can easily mimic the effect by using smart lamps and warm bulbs, making your space forever bright.

Home

Don’t Forget The Fur Baby
If you are a pet parent, don’t forget to invest in a cool mat; it will keep your furry friend cool all summer long.
