Comedian Faces Court Summons After Satirical Comments on Maria B
Maria B, a top Pakistani fashion designer, is in the spotlight again. This time, it’s not for her clothes, but for a legal battle with comedian and YouTuber Shehzad Ghias. The issue began when Ghias criticized Maria B’s public stance on “Qom-e-Lut” and parenting.
Maria B responded on Instagram, saying, “I will never stop raising my voice for the parents in our country. I will never stop talking about Qom-e-Lut. See you in criminal court.”

In a recent video, Ghias claimed that he was first served a civil notice. Later, Maria B reportedly took the matter to the FIA, filing a criminal defamation case. He now fears arrest and says he hasn’t received full details of the charges.
Ghias insists that he never mentioned Maria B by name in his latest content. He believes this is an attempt to silence dissent. “Imagine going to jail over a joke,” he said. “Does freedom of speech even exist in Pakistan anymore?”
The situation has divided social media. Some users support Maria B’s stance. Others believe Ghias is being unfairly targeted.
This case raises big questions. Can satire be punished as a crime? And are the powerful using legal tools to silence critics?
