Sanam Marvi Sends Rs50 Million Legal Notice to Arts Council President Ahmed Shah
Singer Claims Mistreatment at Sukkur Concert
Folk and sufi singer Sanam Marvi has sent a Rs50 million legal notice to Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi. She accuses him of mistreating and threatening her at a Sukkur concert on August 10.
The event at Jinnah Municipal Stadium was part of a Sindh government concert series for Marka-e-Haq and Independence Day. Marvi says she had agreed to perform. She claims the organisers ignored her calls, which caused her to arrive late.
In the notice, she alleges Shah pushed her and shouted aggressively when she arrived. She demands a public apology and financial compensation for damage to her reputation, emotional distress, and financial loss.
Ahmed Shah Rejects Allegations
Ahmed Shah denies all accusations. He calls them “a pack of lies” and says they are politically motivated. He claims he has not yet received the official notice, despite its circulation online.
Shah says Marvi reached the venue hours late. Her slot was scheduled for 7:30pm, but she arrived after 10pm. Other artists, including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, were on time.
According to Shah, he met Marvi briefly at the Sukkur Gymkhana before the show. He offered her tea and suggested waiting for a possible stage slot before the main act. He says she left and stayed in her vehicle instead.
Shah adds that Marvi had earlier posted a video on social media saying she was delayed by a road blockade on the Indus Highway. He says his record in organising cultural events across Sindh speaks for itself.
