Artificial Intelligence is doing more than fixing grammar or creating fun images. It’s solving real problems. At MBZUAI in Abu Dhabi, three Pakistani women are using AI to improve healthcare and education in meaningful ways.
AI Tools That Detect Diseases Early
Tooba Tehreem Sheikh lost her mother to late-stage colon cancer. That loss drove her to develop medical AI tools. Her systems, IHA-YOLO and Med-YOLOWorld, scan medical images and help doctors detect diseases early. They work with existing hospital equipment, so they’re easy to use and cost-effective. These tools are built for speed, accuracy, and real-world use in Pakistan’s hospitals.
AI That Speaks Your Language
Ashba Sameed from Karachi focuses on language-based AI. Her tools connect spoken words to written text in many languages. This helps people use apps, helplines, and education tools even if they can’t read or write English. It’s a big step toward digital inclusion.
SciGrade Simplifying Science
Fatimah Lyba Khan created SciGrade, an AI that simplifies science texts for all ages. From school children to adult learners, SciGrade breaks down complex topics into simple language while keeping facts accurate.
These Pakistani women are proving that AI can do more than tech tricks. It can change lives — through smarter healthcare and easier access to learning.
