On February 15, 2025, at 10:48 PM, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, causing residents to evacuate buildings in alarm. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the quake’s epicenter was located 8 kilometers southeast of Rawalpindi, at a depth of 17 kilometers. Tremors were also felt in surrounding areas, including Murree, Gujar Khan, Talagang, Jhelum, and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Despite the widespread panic, there have been no reports of casualties or significant property damage. Seismologists have advised residents to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols, although no immediate aftershocks have been recorded.
