From having impressed many with his theatrical skills to his absolute riveting performance in dramas and films, this passionate star is creating waves and there is no stopping him. Agha Mustafa Hassan knows his craft and is representing complex characters with such impeccability and we just can’t wait to see what he does next.
Social Diary had a wonderful time conversing with this highly talented artist, as we got to know more of what drives him to continue doing what he does with such sheer passion:
SD: From your popular theatre play ‘Siachen’ to progressing into various dramas and even films, how did the transgress feel?
Agha: Wow, to be honest now that you’ve asked this question, I’m getting flashbacks of “Siachen”. What a journey this has been! Initially it was very difficult. One day I’m doing a theatre play, next day I’m sitting with the likes of Nauman Ijaz and Sania Saeed, the journey has been nothing shy of a roller coaster. But, trust me when I say this, the best is yet to come!
SD: Among all three kinds of entertainment platforms- which remains closest to your heart and why?
Agha: As much as I’ve enjoyed being a professional actor, shooting for Dramas, TVCs, Films and even Web Series, the purest and rawest form of art for me is theatre. It’s something that’s very close to my heart still. When you’re on stage you feel like a God. You have the power to make people laugh and you have the power to make them cry. The best bit is there are no retakes, so for me, it’s still my favorite.
SD: How do you decide on the roles you want to take on?
Agha: I read the script, as every actor should. While reading it, if something inside my brain or heart says, do it, I do it! I need to like the characters I do. Otherwise, what’s the point of calling myself an artist if I don’t even enjoy my art?
SD: Have there been any majorly disappointments or setbacks along the way?
Agha: Of course! There have been many major disappointments and heartaches. In fact, there was a point where I almost quit my career. Being an upcoming actor in Pakistan is tough, it has highs and it has lows but, it has taught me so much. It has made me a better person. I get to do what I love for a living; how many people can say that?
SD: Till date, which remains your most favorite project and why?
Agha: On TV, my debut, Sange Mar Mar! The character of Gohar, for me, was the ideal way to announce myself to the public and my theatre play “Siachen” of course, without it, I wouldn’t be here.
SD: How do you feel the world of creating art on screens has progressed through the years?
Agha: It has, I believe, revolutionized everything. We’ve moved on from Cinema screens and TV Screens, people are creating masterpieces of art, on the small screen of their cell phones or tablets. I feel the more exposure people have, the more artistic and innovative the products. Look at Tik Tok, love it or hate it, on Tik Tok people are creating content that will make you laugh, make you cringe, make you smile yet, at the same time, some people are creating such innovative content that it’ll blow your mind.
SD: Do you feel we are in a position to hold a strong global stance?
Agha: I don’t think so, no.
SD: If not, what do you feel is holding us back?
Agha: I think we’ve lost track of art. Most of the tv producers are more focused on making money rather than creating art. It’s a business, not art I feel. We used to make dramas that were renowned worldwide. Dramas like Dhoop Kinare, Saaye, Anghan Tera etc. They still are watched all over the world, how many of the dramas made in the last 5/10 years do you feel will become classics? I’m pretty sure you could count them on your fingertips.
D: You are currently working on a project with Saba Qamar? How is that coming along?
Agha: Working with Saba has been a dream. I feel like it was a fairytale. Having her be my heroine, that too on a script that is so unique and different, has been nothing short of amazing. We have amazing chemistry with one another and I cannot wait to share it with all of you. I’ve never been more excited for a project so far in my career.
SD: How do you feel we should cope with the uncertainty that the pandemic has brought?
Agha: I think Covid has changed everything in terms of the way we perceived life. The rules and norms of society have changed. It’s different for everyone! Everyone copes in their own way. For me, it’s been faith. I’ve kept faith in Allah, that’s what’s gotten me through the uncertainty
SD: What are your plans and vision for 2021?
Agha: Well, the plan and vision is to work as hard as I can, enjoy life as much as I can, thank Allah for His blessings and be the best version of myself.
SD: Any words of advice for those who wish to pursue their luck in this field?
Agha: Yes, if you want to be an actor, you need to be patient, very patient. You need to be a dreamer and believe in yourself at all times! Time, hard work and patience can do wonders.
