SD: What inspired you to pursue a career in modeling, and how did your sister’s success in acting influence your decision?
Sana: It’s fascinating how unexpected opportunities can lead us down new paths. In my case, I never planned to be a part of the glam world either. I’m actually a mathematician based in the US. But a few months ago, while I was visiting my family in Pakistan, I happened to do a show for Deepak Perwani just for fun. And guess what? It ended up opening doors for me in the showbiz industry! Life can be full of surprises sometimes. The creativity and artistry of the industry truly inspire me. Growing up, watching my sister excel in acting ignited my own desire to pursue a career in the entertainment world. Her success showed me that with hard work and determination, it’s possible to achieve your dreams. I’m excited about the opportunity to grow as a person and explore my creative potential through modeling.
SD: Can you share a memorable moment or a milestone in your modeling career that you are particularly proud of?
Sana: One of the most unforgettable experiences was being nominated and receiving the National Leadership Award earlier this year. The journey from that moment forward was a whirlwind of emotions and opportunities.
SD: How do you and your sister support each other in your respective careers, given the different demands of modeling and acting?
Sana: My sister and I have an incredibly close bond, and that’s been instrumental in supporting each other’s careers. Even though modeling and acting have different demands, we both understand the pressures of being in the public eye. We’re each other’s biggest cheerleaders, always there to listen, offer advice, or simply be a shoulder to cry on. We’ve learned to appreciate the unique challenges of each other’s worlds, and that mutual understanding has deepened our support.
SD: Would you ever consider venturing into the world of acting and any kind of role you wish to pursue as your debut?
Sana: Acting is definitely an intriguing world. I admire the talent and dedication of actors. While I haven’t actively pursued it, I’m open to exploring opportunities if the right project comes along. If I were to dip my toes into acting, I’d be drawn to a challenging character-driven role. Something that allows me to step outside of myself and explore different perspectives.
SD: What challenges have you faced as a model in Pakistan, and how have you overcome them?
Sana: Being a model in Pakistan comes with its unique set of challenges. Limited opportunities and societal perceptions can often hinder one’s growth. I’ve faced my share of obstacles, from overcoming stereotypes to balancing academic pursuits with a modeling career. To overcome these challenges, I focused on building a strong portfolio, continuously honing my skills, and networking with industry professionals. I also believe in the importance of education and have pursued my studies alongside modeling. By staying determined and persistent, I’ve been able to carve a niche for myself.
SD: Do you think nepotism exists in the industry?
Sana: It’s no secret that nepotism exists to some extent in most industries, and the entertainment world is no exception. While talent and hard work are undoubtedly essential for success, connections can sometimes open doors. Personally, I’ve encountered both sides of the coin. I’ve seen individuals who have worked incredibly hard to build their careers from scratch, and others who’ve had opportunities presented to them due to family connections. Ultimately, I believe that a thriving industry is one where everyone has a fair chance to shine, regardless of their background. Diversity and inclusivity are crucial for creating a dynamic and innovative creative landscape.”
SD: Can you describe a typical day in your life, from morning routines to work commitments?
Sana: My days can be quite dynamic, but there’s a general rhythm to them. It often starts early with a workout or yoga session to keep fit and centered. After getting ready, I typically have a healthy breakfast and catch up on emails or industry news. This helps me start the day feeling refreshed and informed. The heart of my day is usually dedicated to shoots, castings, or meetings. There’s a lot of travel involved, so flexibility is key. I also prioritize self-care, whether it’s a quick meditation or a relaxing bath. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, exploring new hobbies, or simply unwinding.
SD: What are some misconceptions about the modeling industry that you would like to address?
Sana: One of the biggest misconceptions about modeling is that it’s all glitz and glamour. While there are undoubtedly glamorous aspects to the job, it’s important to remember that it’s a demanding career that requires discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. Additionally, the industry is becoming increasingly diverse and inclusive, which is a positive step forward. However, there’s still work to be done to challenge unrealistic beauty standards and create a more equitable environment for all models.
SD: How do you stay grounded and maintain your authenticity in an industry that often focuses on appearances?
Sana: The modeling industry can be fast-paced and image-focused, but it’s essential for me to stay grounded and true to myself. Maintaining strong relationships with family and friends helps me keep perspective. I also believe in the importance of personal growth and continuous learning.
SD: What advice would you give to young aspiring models who look up to you and your career?
Sana: It’s incredibly humbling to know that young models look up to my career. The most important advice I can give is to focus on personal growth. Build self-confidence, take care of your physical and mental health, and never stop learning. Remember, the modeling industry is competitive, so networking and understanding the business side are crucial. But most importantly, stay true to yourself. Develop a strong personal brand and use social media wisely. It’s about more than just looking good; it’s about being a well-rounded individual.
