SD: What was that one thing that made you make the leap into the entertainment industry?
Maham: To be honest, I didn’t really think of going into acting early on. I just knew I wanted to be a part of this industry somehow but acting was never the first choice in my mind.
SD: How did the shift from hosting to acting come about?
Maham: Moving from hosting to acting was actually kind of fun.I enjoyed and learned a lot from hosting, I believe half of my confidence came from hosting a live show that too in a different language which I wasn’t fluent in, so yeah, much of how my skills were polished comes from my ability to have done hosting when I did.
SD: Which one do you find more fulfilling and exciting?
Maham: I would have to say acting. I remember once when I was about to do my first theater play, on the day of performance my director said that this becomes addictive and honestly it is. For me, it is like breathing air now.
SD: Do you feel you are making an impact with your acting prowess?
Maham: I am definitely trying to. One major way is the energy I invest in putting my characters to life. I try to make them as believable as I can and I really hope one day it will make an impact, if it hasn’t already.
SD: Does it become overwhelming sometimes for you to be in the public eye?
Maham: It does sometimes, but hey I wanted to be recognized by people. I came into this business knowing it. I wanted my audience to like me and yes, let’s be honest- we all love the attention don’t we? But yes it does get overwhelming when people start judging you for no reason. That is a major price you need to pay for fame.
SD: Do you take advice and tips from your husband when it comes to your career and project choices?
Maham: Ofcourse, I do. He always has the best advice to give!
SD: As an actor, what has been the most rewarding aspect of your work?
Maham: When people meet me and tell me how my certain characters made them happy and made them laugh when they were low or depressed, that just makes all the effort and hard work pay off. It truly is the best thing- to be able to connect with people through the magic we bring on screen!
SD: How do you keep a good balance between your personal and professional life?
Maham: I try to maintain a balance- one always should.
SD: Do you feel there are definite discrimination issues when it comes to the kind of roles and characters women get to portray in our industry?
Maham: Things are changing but unfortunately women are shown as being the damsel in distress. And this is unfortunately what our viewers want and that is what sells. The mindset needs to change and things may get a major nudge for the better.
SD: Are there any new projects you are working on?
Maham: Yes! I’m currently working on 2 projects at the moment and one of them is something I’ve never played before! Super excited for the audience to experience that.
SD: The one thing you wish the entertainment industry would change?
Maham: Start writing better characters for women!
SD: Do you feel you would like to explore the world of movies anytime soon?
Maham: Oh of course! Would love to get into movies someday.
