Speaking to Social Diary Magazine, Hafsa Butt shared insights into her journey as an actress and her latest role in Bajjo, which has been generating buzz. SD: Bajjo is generating a lot of buzz—what drew you to this role, and how does it challenge you as an actor?
Hafsa: Working on Bajjo has been an absolute delight, thanks to the brilliant direction of Mazhar Moin. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented team. My character is a lovable, quirky, hopeless romantic who takes a leap of faith in love and marriage. Playing this role has been challenging for me, as it’s quite different from my real-life personality. But that’s what makes it so exciting—I get to explore new facets of myself and grow as an actor. As the story unfolds, her complexity and depth are revealed, and I’m excited for audiences to join her on this journey!
SD: You’ve played diverse roles in your career. Is there a particular character or genre you’d love to explore next?
Hafsa: I’ve been fortunate to play diverse roles, and I’m eager to continue exploring different genres. I’d love to tackle a period drama or a thriller next. The key is to find characters that resonate with me and allow me to grow as an actor.
SD: Outside of acting, you’re a strong advocate for animal welfare. Can you share what inspired your passion for animals?
Hafsa: Growing up, I was always surrounded by animals, and that sparked a deep compassion within me. As I learned more about animal welfare issues, I knew I had to use my platform to raise awareness. It’s heartbreaking to see animals suffer, and I believe we can make a difference through education and advocacy.
SD: What changes would you like to see in Pakistan regarding animal rights and welfare?
Hafsa: Pakistan has made progress in animal welfare, but there’s still much work to be done. I’d like to see stricter laws and enforcement against animal cruelty. Additionally, education and awareness campaigns can help change mindsets and promote empathy toward animals.
SD: The Pakistani drama industry has evolved significantly over the years. How do you see its growth, and where do you think it’s headed?
Hafsa: The Pakistani drama industry has evolved significantly, with a focus on quality storytelling and production. I’m proud to be part of this growth, and I think we’re headed in the right direction. With the rise of digital platforms, our content is reaching global audiences, which is exciting.
SD: What challenges do actors face in the drama industry today, and how have you personally navigated them?
Hafsa: Actors face various challenges, from intense competition to maintaining a work-life balance. Personally, I focus on staying authentic, honing my craft, and trusting my instincts. I’ve been fortunate to have opportunities come my way, and I’m grateful for the support of my team and loved ones who help me navigate the industry’s ups and downs.
SD: With the rise of digital platforms, do you think traditional TV dramas will remain dominant, or is the industry shifting toward web series?
Hafsa: While traditional TV dramas will always have a place, digital platforms are revolutionizing the way we consume content. I think we’ll see a mix of both, with web series offering more niche and experimental storytelling. As an actor, I’m excited to explore both mediums.
SD: Do you believe the industry offers enough opportunities for newcomers, or is it still challenging for fresh talent to break through?
Hafsa: While there are more opportunities now than ever before, breaking into the industry can still be challenging for newcomers. I believe it’s essential to provide mentorship, training, and support to emerging talent. As an established actor, I try to pay it forward by guiding and encouraging newcomers whenever I can.
