A panel to probe into the suicide bid by a private university student in Lahore has been formed after a 21-year-old D. Pharmacy student reportedly attempted to take her life on campus, triggering concern among students, parents, and education authorities.
Incident Sparks Immediate University Action
The female student, Fatima, sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a local hospital. Soon after the incident, the university constituted a high-level inquiry committee comprising senior faculty and management officials to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
Academic Pressure Emerges as Key Factor
According to initial police findings, the student was under intense family pressure to continue her studies in D. Pharmacy, a subject she reportedly found challenging. Police sources said she had earlier shared her distress with a close friend and expressed fear about her situation.
Officials clarified that the student had a strong academic record, with high attendance and excellent midterm results, ruling out poor performance as a cause.
Campus Safety Measures and Class Suspension
Following student protests and growing safety concerns, the university suspended on-campus classes and shifted all academic activities online. Authorities are also considering additional safety measures, including installing protective barriers and increasing staff presence.
The panel probing the suicide bid by a private university student in Lahore aims to ensure accountability, address mental health challenges, and prevent future incidents, as the city reflects on yet another alarming case within weeks.
