Chhipa Welfare Association Faces Backlash for Publicly Shaming Humaira Asghar
Meharbano Sethi has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to publicly denounce Chhipa Welfare Association’s handling of the Humaira Asghar Ali case, slamming the NGO for holding a press conference that, in her words, “further maligned Humaira instead of protecting her.”
Sethi’s tweet pulled no punches: “If this had been Edhi Sahab, such a disgrace would never have taken place,” she wrote—drawing a sharp contrast between the late Abdul Sattar Edhi’s dignified legacy and what she calls the “insensitive” actions of Ramzan Chhipa’s organization.
Press Conference or Public Shaming?
Sethi was particularly outraged at how the press conference added fuel to an already sensitive situation. Her emotionally charged statement—“They should’ve just buried her today as they said they would”—reflects her belief that Chhipa failed to protect Humaira’s dignity after her death.
A Dignified Funeral vs. a Media Spectacle
After Humaira’s own father reportedly refused to accept her body, it was Meharbano Sethi who stepped in to claim her remains and ensure a respectful burial. In doing so, Sethi’s actions stood in stark contrast to what many see as Chhipa Welfare Association’s performative response.
