The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a strong stance against the national team’s poor performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Each player is facing fine of hefty Rs 5 million (50 lakh) following the team’s embarrassing Super Eight exit .
Why Did PCB Impose This Fine?
Pakistan’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026 was highly disappointing. The team failed to progress beyond the Super Eight stage. They managed wins only against associate nations like the Netherlands, USA, and Namibia . A crushing defeat against arch-rivals India exposed their weaknesses .
The final blow came in the Super Eight stage. A loss to England and a washout against New Zealand left their semi-final hopes hanging by a thread. Although they beat Sri Lanka in their last match, it was not enough to improve their net run rate. New Zealand qualified instead .
Details of the PCB Penalty
The PCB communicated the fine to the players immediately after the loss to India . The decision was officially confirm after Pakistan’s official elimination.
- Fine Amount: PKR 5 million (Rs 50 lakh) per player.
- Deduction: The amount will be deducted from their monthly salaries or match fees .
- Warning: Players were told that preferential treatment is over. Performance is now the only criteria for rewards .
This fine applies to all squad members. Senior players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab Khan are also including in this penalty. This move by the PCB establishes a new norm in Pakistan cricket. Accountability is no longer just a talking point. It is now official policy.
