Two Chinese companies have applied for licenses to export donkey meat from Pakistan. Officials confirmed the development.
First Legal Attempt for Donkey Meat Exports
This comes just a day after authorities raided an illegal donkey slaughterhouse in Islamabad. Nearly one tonne of meat was seized, and 50 live animals were rescued. Applications for Slaughterhouse and Export Clearance
Sources reveal the firms have submitted two key applications:
- Permission to operate slaughterhouses.
- Export clearance for donkey meat and bones.
- If approved, this would be Pakistan’s first legal donkey meat supply chain to China.
Government Review Underway
The Ministry of National Food Security & Research is reviewing the applications. Officials say strict checks are in process. Once regulatory conditions are met, the companies will get approval. Exports would be sent to China under supervision conditions.
Gwadar to Be the Only Export Hub
All processing and exports will be limit to Gwadar, Balochistan. The government has designated it as the sole legal port for this trade. No other city will be allow to process or export donkey meat. This ensures oversight and prevents illegal domestic sales.
Economic Benefits for Pakistan
Officials say legal exports could boost Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves. The trade may open new revenue streams. However, strict monitoring will be implement to prevent misuse.
Crackdown on Illegal Slaughterhouses
The government has warned against unlicensed operations. Recently, an unregister foreign national is expose to be running an illegal donkey meat facility in Islamabad. Authorities vow to take strict action against unauthorised slaughterhouses. Only licensed firms will be allow to operate.
