Kasim Khan, son of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Wednesday. He detailed concerns over his father’s imprisonment. He also highlighted what he described as a broader pattern of repression in Pakistan.
Imran Khan’s Imprisonment and Conditions
Imran Khan has been imprisoned since 2023. He is currently serving a 14-year sentence at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. The conviction stems from the £190 million corruption case. He was also convicted over concealing details of Toshakhana gifts. Kasim raised specific concerns about his father’s treatment. He alleged that Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement. He stated that visitors face restricted access.
Medical care was another major concern. Kasim noted that his father has suffered from an eye ailment since January. He emphasized ongoing worries regarding the lack of adequate medical attention.

A Wider Pattern of Repression
Speaking at the UNHRC session, Kasim framed his father’s case as part of a larger issue. He said it was not an isolated incident. Instead, he called it “the most visible example of a much wider pattern of repression in Pakistan since 2022.”
Ongoing Political Crisis
The address comes amid ongoing political turmoil in Pakistan. Imran Khan remains a central figure despite his imprisonment. His party continues to protest his detention and the conditions of his confinement. Kasim’s appeal to the UNHRC represents an effort to seek international intervention. The response from the Pakistani government and the global community remains closely watched.
