SD: You’ve been described as an indie pop singer blending various musical styles. How would you define your unique sound, and how do you incorporate different genres into your music?
Sameen: I would say my sound is a reflection of my personality—dynamic and ever-evolving. I love blending indie pop with elements from alternative rock, electronic, and even some classical influences. I think every song has its own vibe, so I don’t shy away from experimentation. Music is all about storytelling, and the more diverse the palette, the more unique the story becomes. I feel like every genre brings a fresh energy to my work, whether it’s a dreamy melody or an edgy beat.
SD: Your debut concert was a massive milestone. What did that experience teach you, and how did it shape your journey as an artist?
Sameen: My debut concert was like stepping into a new world. It taught me how important it is to connect with your audience—there’s a magic that happens when you’re performing live, and you feel the energy of everyone in the room. It definitely shaped my journey by making me more confident in my music and in myself as an artist. I realized that every performance is not just a gig; it’s an experience. And I’m so grateful to have had the chance to share my music with people in such an electric way.
SD: As Spotify’s Ambassador of the Month for EQUAL Pakistan, how do you feel about the impact of this platform on promoting female talent in the music industry?
Sameen: Being the Ambassador for EQUAL Pakistan is such an honor, and it’s amazing to see how Spotify is elevating female voices in the music industry. The platform has really opened up global opportunities for Pakistani women in music, creating a space where their talent is recognized and celebrated. It feels empowering to be a part of a movement that’s helping shift the conversation and give women the visibility they deserve.
SD: Tell us about the inspiration behind your song ‘Chup.’ What message do you hope to convey through its lyrics?
Sameen: Chup is a reflection on how we, as humans, often feel as though our suffering is unique—like we are the only ones carrying the weight of the world. It’s easy to fall into this mindset, believing that because of what we’ve endured, we deserve empathy and understanding. But the truth is, suffering is universal. Every living thing in this world faces hardship in one form or another. We are not as separate as we think, yet we continue to remain silent about it, almost as if it’s easier to stay quiet than to confront the deeper truth. The song questions why, after everything we’ve gone through, we still remain silent. Why do we bottle up our pain and pass it on, expecting the next person to carry it without speaking up? It’s as if we’ve learned to stay quiet, to suffer in isolation, and in doing so, we’re also passing on that silence. It’s a call to break this cycle—to speak up, not just for our own healing, but for the collective healing of everyone.
SD: You’ve mentioned your love for mixing up genres. What new genres or musical elements are you exploring in your future projects?
Sameen: I’m always exploring new ways to express myself musically! Right now, I’m really into experimenting with electronic sounds, but I’m also diving into world music influences. There’s something so beautiful about incorporating different cultural elements into my tracks—it adds depth and new textures. I’m also working with some live instrumental sounds, bringing in more acoustic vibes that I think will surprise people. The goal is always to push boundaries while still staying true to what feels authentic.
SD: You’ve spoken about your admiration for artists like Avril Lavigne and Billie Eilish. How have these influences shaped your music and your artistry?
Sameen: Both Avril and Billie have had a huge impact on me. Avril’s raw, unapologetic attitude in her music really inspired me to not shy away from expressing vulnerability. Billie’s innovative approach to sound and how she bends genres made me realize that music doesn’t need to fit into a box. I think their fearless individuality and the way they’ve paved their own paths in the industry is something I deeply resonate with. I’ve always tried to embrace that authenticity in my own work.
SD: You’re known for juggling multiple projects at once. What’s your creative process like when you’re working on new music, and how do you stay inspired?
Sameen: It’s a bit of a balancing act! My creative process is very fluid—I like to let ideas flow naturally, so I often start with a feeling or a melody and build from there. I like to mix things up, sometimes writing the lyrics first or experimenting with sound before I even get to the song’s meaning. Staying inspired is all about keeping an open mind and exploring the world around me. Whether it’s a conversation or a random walk in the park, inspiration is everywhere if you’re willing to notice it.
SD: You’ve mentioned you’re afraid of lizards! How do you balance being such a fearless performer on stage with your personal quirks?
Sameen: Haha, yes, lizards are definitely my kryptonite! But it’s funny because when I’m on stage, I’m in my element. Being a performer feels so natural to me, and that confidence comes from a deep love for music and connecting with my audience. It’s like a different side of me comes to life on stage. Off-stage, though, I’m just like anyone else, with my quirks and little fears. It’s all part of being human, right? Embracing both the fearless performer and the vulnerable person underneath.
SD: Your song playlist includes a mix of artists like Adele, Billie Eilish, and Haiden. How does your diverse music taste influence the sound of your own tracks?
Sameen: I think my playlist is a reflection of the diverse influences I bring to my own sound. Adele’s emotional depth, Billie’s experimental edge, and Haiden’s unique vibe—all of these artists inspire me to push the boundaries of what I can do. They each bring something different to the table, and when I’m creating my own music, I try to blend those elements into something that feels uniquely mine. I love that I can move between different moods and styles and still maintain a cohesive sound.
SD: If you could collaborate with any artist, living or past, to create a song, who would it be and why? What would that collaboration look like musically?
Sameen: If I had the chance to collaborate with any artist, it would definitely be Jaffer Zaidi. His musical sensibility, his ability to weave intricate melodies with meaningful lyrics, and his emotive voice are things I really admire. Jaffer’s work, especially with the depth of his compositions, has always struck me as something that speaks directly to the soul. I feel like our combined energies would create a sound that’s rich in emotion and has the kind of depth that really resonates with people.Musically, I imagine we would blend his beautiful, soulful touch with my more experimental indie pop vibe.
